RECESSION PROOF PRODUCTS - SPAM, VIDEO GAMES, AND SIN ESSENTIALS

Watch CBS Videos Online

Officials with the largest consumer electronics trade group say their industry is weathering the recession better than others because many of its products are now seen as NECESSITIES.

Televisions, mobile phones, personal computers and video games -- categories that account for nearly 70% of total consumer electronics spending -- all expected to see growth this year.

So consumers are spending...if they feel they really need something and/or if they feel they are getting a good value. And more people are planning to stay home to weather this storm...with all their techno gadgets and a tasty frozen dinner. There is also nothing like indulging in some sin essentials..like a bar of chocolate, a gin and tonic or perhaps a few extra cigarettes to get your mind off your woes.

The sex industry seems to be making it through hard times too. Those strapped for cash may be spending less on restaurants and entertainment but not necessarily on the quality of their sex lives.

Larry Flynt publisher of Hustler Magazine hasn't weathered the recession quite so well and said last week he will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry???

I guess this means consumers would rather stay at home and create their own forms of entertainment versus Larry's brand.

Anyone with creative stay at home ideas post here.
